One way of specifying something is by saying who or what it belongs to, a form that used to be termed a "possessive" as it denotes possession, or it can be interchanged by of-phrase. The genitive is formed in writing by adding 's to singular nouns and to the plural nouns that do not end in -s, or by the of-phrase; or the combination of the above two ways.
