How many forms of the antecedents do we have? Briefly explain them.
The antecedents have two forms. A typical antecedent is nominal, i.e. a noun or a noun phrase; the other is non-nominal antecedents which occur less frequently though, can be clauses, verb phrases or even adjective phrases. The nominal antecedent is open to either restrictive or non-restrictive modification depending on the situational or linguistic context, whereas the non-nominal antecedent, whatever it may be, normally takes non-restrictive modification.
