Proper nouns do not normally take the definite article. There are, however, quite a few exceptions, which include (1) personal names in the plural form referring to the family; (2) names of seas, rivers, canals, mountain ranges, and certain other geographical proper nouns; (3) names of organizations that are made up of common nouns; (4) certain names of hotels, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, museums, galleries, etc.; (5) proper nouns with restrictive modification; (6) works of an author, products of a brand, etc.; (7) the + adjective constructions refer to people of a particular type, a special quality or people as nationals of a certain country.
