Why should Western festivals be so popular while traditional Chinese festivals are not? Some scholars consider it the consequence of our cultural belittlement and self-colonization. What the modern history left to our compatriots is not only infinite resentment, but also a deep-rooted sense of inferiority. We habitually conclude that the modern history of China is one of backwardness and vulnerability to attacks, thus taking a numb and self-abasing (or even, a hatred) attitude towards our own culture.
