Why are textual connectives important?

Textual connectives are only one of several means commonly used to achieve textual cohesiveness. But they are important for at least two reasons. Firstly, they are used frequently as explicit cohesive markers in either speech or writing. If a learner of English fails to use them properly, the text he or she has produced may not be cohesive. Secondly, they may not be easy to learn, for there is a cultural contrast underlying them.
