Honourifics
Honourifics are defined by Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary as “a class of grammatical forms used in speaking to or about a social superior’’, and by Longman Modern English Dictionary as language forms “imparting or conferring the highest respect, especially, designating certain forms of speech in many Oriental languages used when addressing a superior”.
