“No taxation without representation”

“No taxation without representation”: This was the slogan used by the Americans before the War of Independence to justify their opposition to unfair British policies, such as the imposition of the Stamp Tax and the British East India Company’s taking away of the tea business from American tea merchants. It means that without their (American) representatives taking part in decision-making, the British had no obligation to pay taxes. It finally led to the War of Independence. (p.239)
