The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest court in the country.It consists of a chief justice and eight associate justices.All are nominated by the president and must be approved by the Senate.The Supreme Court has the power to strike down laws it finds to be against the Constitution.
The second highest level of the federal judiciary is made up of the courts of appeals，created in 1891 to help handle cases and ease the burden on the Supreme Court.The United States is divided into 11 regions，each served by a court of appeals.
