Australian Constitution
Australia has a written Constitution. It came into effect when the six colonies federated to form the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. The Australian Constitution deals with the composition of the Australian federal government and the powers of that government and the relationship between the federal government and the governments of the States. It consists of eight parts or chapters. The Constitution can be changed only by referendum.
