Emily Bronte used a very complicated narrative technique in writing her novel Wuthering Heights. Try to tell Bronte s way of narration briefly.
A.Wuthering Heights is told mainly by Nelly, Catherine s old nurse, to Mr. Lockwood, a temporary tenant at Grange. The latter too gives an account of what he sees at Wuthering Heights. And part of the story is told through Isabella s letters to Nelly. While the central interest is maintained, the sequence of its development is constantly disordered by flashbacks. This makes the story all the more enticing and genuine.
B.The novel is descriptive-narrative oriented. There is no digressive talk or the omniscient comment and analysis from the author while the stories are told in a matter-of-fact way. There is no judgment or criticism of the characters from the authoress. (p261)
