为什么说鸦片战争是中国近代史的起点?

自1840年鸦片战争为标志，中国由封建社会逐步演变成为半殖民地半封建社会。是中华民族遭受到外国资本主义-帝国主义侵略、压迫、掠夺和剥削的历史，同时也是中国人民反抗外来侵略的斗争，中国人民的民族意识开始觉醒。
