（1）This definition of language was proposed by Chomsky in 1957．
(2) It focuses on the purely structural properties of languages and suggests that these properties can be investigated from a mathematically precise point of view．．But，
(3) It says nothing about the communicative function of natural or non-natural languages and,
（4） it says nothing about the symbolic nature of the elements of language．
